Former WRCR Chief Engineer Brian Dubin revisits one of his frequent haunts...the boiler room of Johnson Center.
WRCR transmitters were located in the boiler rooms of each living center where they were connected into the dorm's electrical system to transmit the station's audio throughout the dorm.
The electrical system was the source of WRCR's hum or buzz. Much time was spent trying to tune the hum out of the transmitters. Remember what it sounded like? Here's a sample.
This picture was taken in August of 2004...10 years after WRCR ceased broadcasting...on a visit to RC to see what traces of WRCR remained. It seemed all the Johnson transmitter needed was an audio source and WRCR would be back on the air!
